In my travels, I have visited over 250 lighthouses in the Great Lakes and Atlantic Coastal regions of the United States and Canada. Lightstations.com was created to showcase my photography of these lighthouses. I also offer a public slide show entitled Lights of the Lakes to share this treasure with others. I have been a member of the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association (GLLKA) since 1985. GLLKA is dedicated to the preservation of the history of Great Lakes lighthouses and the people who kept them. A native of the Great Lakes region, I was born and raised in Michigan. I now reside in Port Washington, Wisconsin, a former fishing village that was founded in 1835 on Lake Michigan's western shore. We have two lighthouses in Port Washington, which is located about 30 miles north of Milwaukee. The oldest of these lights, built in 1860, is now inactive and has been converted to a public museum. I got started in photography in high school, and became seriously interested in outdoor scenic photography during my college years at Michigan Technological University. In the 1980s, my interests shifted toward lighthouses as a photographic theme. Most of the pictures archived on this site were taken during a ten-year period from the early '80s to the early '90s. |
