The Munising Range Lights were built in 1908. There have been many shipwrecks in the area, and Munising now hosts an underwater diving preserve.

The 59-foot high tower shown here is of riveted steel construction and was built in 1907 after Congress appropriated $15,000 to replace the Grand Island East Channel Light. It is 12' in diameter at the base and tapering to 8' in diameter at the top. It is topped by an 8' round, cast-iron lantern room. The focal point of the light is 79' above lake level. The two-story former keeper's residence now serves as offices for Coast Guard personnel. The Munising Range Lights were automated in the 1960s.
