Copper Harbor Rear Range Light

Copper Harbor, Michigan

Lake Superior

This latest rear range light at Copper Harbor. It was built in 1869 and reconstructed in 1964. It is now used by Fort Wilkins State Park employees.

The original Copper Harbor range lights were authorized in 1860 when congress appropriated $3,500 for their construction. The first keeper lived at the Army's nearby Fort Wilkins until the keeper's residence shown here was built. The first keeper, Napoleon Beedon, also was keeper of the main Copper Harbor light.
