The Detroit River Light, built in 1885, marks the
entrance to the Detroit River from Lake Erie. The steel tower adjoins an
attached fog signal building. The light once had a Fresnel lens that has been
removed and is now displayed at the Michigan Maritime Museum in South Haven.
This structure is still a critically important aid to navigation, as it marks
the southern approach to the Detroit River as ships travel upbound from Lake
Erie.
