Detroit River Light

South Rockwood, Michigan, USA

Lake Erie

The Detroit River Light, built in 1885, marks the entrance to the Detroit River from Lake Erie. The steel tower adjoins an attached fog signal building. The light once had a Fresnel lens that has been removed and is now displayed at the Michigan Maritime Museum in South Haven. This structure is still a critically important aid to navigation, as it marks the southern approach to the Detroit River as ships travel upbound from Lake Erie.
