DeTour Passage Range Lights 6 Mile Point, Michigan, USA St. Mary's River |

I know almost nothing about these lights, except for where I photographed them. I got their name off a new lighthouse locator chart published by the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keeper's Association. The shorter light (first two thumbnails) now stands in the yard of the DeTour Passage Historical Museum in DeTour, Michigan at the eastern tip of the Upper Peninsula. The museum attendant mistakenly informed me that this light had come off Frying Pan Island, but I later learned that the Frying Pan Island light is on display outside a U.S. Coast Guard building in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. The taller light (third thumbnail) stands on the grounds of the Les Cheneaux Islands Maritime Museum in Cedarville, Michigan. Because of the nearly identical design of these lights, I am assuming that they are a pair of range lights that were once installed in the same location, which based upon what I now know was at 6 Mile Point on the St. Mary's River. I have searched all over the internet and come up empty-handed on these lights. If anyone can provide more background on them, please write! More scroll down |
