Duluth South Breakwater Inner Light sits in the shadow of the aerial lift bridge in Duluth, Minnesota. Funds to build it were appropriated in 1870, and it went into service in 1872. The light has a six-panel Fourth Order Fresnel lens. Each panel has a bulls-eye in the center. The focal plane is 68 feet above lake level. The lens once rotated, but the clockworks mechanism that drove it is no longer present. This light was made obsolete in 1901 when the Duluth Harbor South Breakwater Outer Light was constructed. No keeper's quarters were ever constructed, as the keeper lived in nearby Duluth. |
