Cana Island Light

Cana Island, Door County, Wisconsin, USA

Lake Michigan

This striking tower is Cana Island Light. Cana Island, 8.8 acres in size, is located in an exposed area between North Bay and Moonlight Bay, two natural harbors of refuge on the east side of the Door Peninsula near Bailey's Harbor. It was built in 1869 and first shown its light in 1870. In 1901, the brick tower was covered with riveted steel plates. The Cana Island Light is now fully automated. It still has its Fresnel lens in place.

The Door County Maritime Museum now governs the tower and keeper's residence and for over 20 years has paid for the preservation and upkeep of the property. The facility is on the National Register of Historic Places.
