Devil's Island was the last lighthouse built in the Apostle Islands. The first light structure built here in 1891 consisted of a wood skeleton tower. It was replaced in 1901 by the 71 foot steel tower shown here. This light is one of the most powerful on Lake Superior, with a range of 23 miles. The lens has a focal plane 100 feet above lake level. Separate quarters were built for the head and assistant keepers.
